The NADC is a regional development council that focuses on advancing the development of the northern economy. Our mission is to identify and implement measures that will advance the north, as well as advise government on opportunities and issues. We are involved with projects and initiatives in transportation, value-added agriculture, tourism and education.

NADC Mandate

The mandate of the Northern Alberta Development Council (NADC) is to "investigate, monitor, evaluate, plan and promote practical measures to foster and advance general development in northern Alberta, and to advise the Government."

The NADC focuses on advancing the development of the northern economy. Northern Alberta includes 60% of Alberta's land mass and has 10% of the province's population. It is resource rich, with 90% of Alberta's forests, all of Canada's oil sands development, nearly 40% of Alberta's conventional oil and gas activity, and 20% of Alberta's agricultural land.

The ten Council members live and work in northern Alberta. Professional support is provided by a staff based in Peace River with offices in Edmonton and Lac La Biche.

NADC Goals

The goals of the NADC are to:

  • Establish priorities for northern opportunities, and increase awareness and support among government and key stakeholders for those priorities.
  • Increase skill levels of northern Albertans.
